A Secret Family Recipe

***Well, it isn't really secret (if it was, why would I mention it?), and it didn't really orginate from my family. We have some friends from Germany, and this recipe came from them...Now, where was I?***

Ah yes. The Secret Family Recipe. One of our fav dishes is the teriyaki salmon, which is odd, now that I think about it, as there is no teriyaki involved... Anyway. I was telling Lisa about it a while a go, and she called me yesterday to say she was making salmon, and wanted to give mine a try! It was such a hit at her house, she suggested I share it here. So here you go! Let me know what you think, and please tell me if you make it at home! (Oh, I am NOT a chef. I don't even really like to cook. You have been warned!)

Ingredients needed:
Salmon
Mayo
Soy Sauce

(Yes, thats really it)

  • Preheat your oven to 350.
  • Take a cake pan or broiler pan and line in tin foil. This makes for much easier clean up.
  • Place Salmon on tin foil, skin side down.

  • Put some mayo in a small mixing bowl. Its tough to tell you how much, because it really depends on the size of your salmon. And honestly, I have never measured. Eyeball so that there is enough mayo to cover your whole fish evenly. We'll want about 1/4 inch of yummy goodness on there.
  • Add some soy sauce to the mayo. We'll just keep adding a little more at a time. We want our mixture to be the color of a light brown egg. Trust me, you'll need more than you think you will.
  • It kinda looks like drowned tofu, doesn't it? Don't worry, keep mixing, it gets better.
This looks much better, doesn't it? The color looks way off, thats my camera. But its a light beige brown.
  • Now, pour your Mayo Mix onto your fish. A rubber spatula works fantastically. We want it evenly covered, and I like to make sure its really buried. Don't go overboard here. There is such a thing as too much mayo. If it gets too thick, it won't brown right. But you've got a lot of wiggle room.
  • Now pop that sucker in your oven for 20-25 mintues. The topping will bubble and brown. It starts to look carmelized. It should flake apart when you cut it open. I like to use a spatula.
  • Yummy!
And you're done! I like to have rice and broccoli with mine, but its really up to you!

25 Weeks!

Baby's now the size of an eggplant!

That oh-so-handy sense of equilibrium is kicking in, and baby's learning to distinguish right side up from upside down.

Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you'd now be able to discern its color and texture. Pin It

Weekly Update - 24 weeks

How far along? 24 weeks

Total Weight Gain: + 13 (+1.5 this week).

Maternity Clothes? No change. I have actually discovered a new way to wear my Bella Band (all the way up like a maternity panel instead of folded at the top of my pants), so I'm back in pre-pg jeans! lol. I wonder how long I'll be able to get away with this. :)

Stretch Marks? Still nothing! I can feel an increase in dryness and itchiness. So I'm continuing the cocoa butter. Hopefully I will at least survive the summer!

Sleep? I'm still pretty tired most of the time. Not getting up in the middle of the night as much. Sleeping deeper too I think. I am sleeping way later as well. No more just waking up at 6 am for me!

Best Moment This Week: Shopping for patterns for Webster with my mom, and finalizing some baby shower choices.

Movement: Oh yeah! I feel him all the time now. He's active all the time. He kicked so hard he almost knocked my ice cream off my shelf... I mean bump. :) I think I am starting to be able to see them from the outside.

Food Cravings: Still Chocolate. Still Weird.

Gender: BOY!!

Labor Signs: Nothing.

Belly Button In or Out? Still in. Gets flatter as the day goes on.

What I miss: Beer. I could really use a beer.

What am I looking forward to: Next ultrasound!

Weekly Wisdom: When people talk to you about pregnancy, they don't always tell you the more unfortunate parts. For example, I have always had a thin athletic build. Don't get too mad, I worked my ass off doing years of ballet. I earned that body. Now, however, is an entirely different story. Don't get me wrong, I know I need to gain weight, and I am happy to do it. I actually like seeing the different changes my body is going through as my pregnancy goes on. What I am not happy about (the part no one told me) is the back fat. That's right ladies. I have fat where there was no fat before. Dance kept my back very toned apparently. Not anymore. I think that is the part I am most concerned with post partum. Getting THE REST OF ME back to normal. I've started noticing other people who don't have back fat, and I'm getting jealous. lol

Milestones: Viability!!!

What a week!

I am sorry, dear blogosphere, but I have been neglecting you.

Scott and I took Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off. It was nice (despite the circumstances) to really be able to spend some real time together this week. We had literally five days in a row. Summer is such a busy time for us, that sometimes those quiet times doing nothing get pushed off.

Monday was the memorial service for Debi. It was beautiful, and she would have absolutely loved it. I have a few pictures (mostly of the flowers), but cannot upload them yet. They played a great slideshow, and even had a video montage of Debi's glory days in the clogging world.

Tuesday we found a pediatrician! I'm excited to bring Webster to Dr.S. Thanks Lisa P for the rec!

Wednesday we cleaned the whole house. Like hands and knees scrubbing the baseboards clean. I can only pray it will stay this way for a long time! I HATE cleaning baseboards!!! Pin It

Another Comparison

I was inspired by Lisa to share a before/after bikini shot! I actually have one in the same bikini!

24 Weeks!

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing 'branches' of the respiratory 'tree' as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
On a side note, today is our V-Day!! That's right, we have officially reached the point of viability. Basically, this means that if (God Forbid) something were to happen, and we needed to deliver, Webster has a CHANCE on the outside. A small one, but a chance nonetheless. Of course, we still want him baking for another 16 weeks or so, but I feel better knowing that he has a chance of surviving.

Weekly Update - 23 Weeks

(I admit it, I'm lazy. So this pic will be dual purpose.)
How far along? 23 weeks

Stretch Marks? Still nothing! And I hate the smell of cocoa butter, by the way. But my skin feels better, so I guess its working?

Interesting Comparison.

I wore one of my favorite shirts today. I wear it quite often, actually.
This is me at 14 weeks.
And here I am today at just over 23 weeks. Whoa! What a difference!
I went to Ikea with my mom, and got some (ok, A TON) of picture frames. I want to do a collage on the wall above the dresser in Websters room.
This wall. The whole wall. So I bought frames, and we laid them out on the floor. Scott and I cannot agree on the layout. I'm not going to tell you which is whose, but we each laid them out how we like them, and we took a picture. Which do you like better?
Option A
Option B
I should say that we are repainting the red and the blue to match the shades in the nursery, and all the natural frames will be painted black. We're really just voting on the layout now. I'll fill the frames with pictures from our honeymoon, our wedding, our family, our engagement session and vacations. Eventually there will be maternity photos in there too. I plan to mat some in white, and some with scrapbook paper that coordinates with the current decor. What do you think?

Debi Moore

Debi passed away this morning. She went on her own terms, free of pain, and surrounded by the people she loved (and who loved her) the most.

Scott, our family, her family and I could really use your prayers right now. Please pray for strength, for peace, and for comfort in the Lord and each other.

Also, I don't really want to talk about it. Pin It

23 Weeks

(The fruit is now updating once per month, so I'm having to find other sources for the weeks in between. I miss the fruit too. But this will just have to suffice!) **Oh, and PS. Why do I look way more pregnant than the picture lady? Also, I just noticed (7/23/09) that I had the 22 week progressive picture up! I updated it now.**

How your baby's growing: Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

Debi

I have talked to a few of you who asked for updates on my Sister In Law. So here we are.

Here is a c/p of an update email from my Brother In Law.
*****

I'm not going to try and word this to make things sound different than they are.

Debi is not doing well. She currently is on a breathing machine as her respiratory system began to shut down. She has an infection that is causing her blood pressure to be very low and her heart rate to be very high. Debi's digestive system is blocked again and the tubes for her to get nutrition are causing her stomach to swell. She is not strong enough for chemo. She needs a miracle.

A miracle is what Debi is in so many different ways so I still think one can happen. We all think one can happen. They drained fluid from around her lungs and her blood pressure came up and her heart rate has come down. Debi has been placed in a partial medical induced coma. She still wakes up and knows we are there. She can't talk because of the tube but still wants to write things. The first time she woke up with the tube in she wrote "Tube?" so we explained why she had it. She has written many more things however the two that I want you all to read, say to yourselves, and hold in your heart. Debi is not giving up. She never will. She believes. She wrote the following:

me and GOD (GOD was written in very large letters) :)

She also wrote this morning:
"God can do anything. Don't give up hope"

Debi needs your prayers.

I wanted to try and candy coat it but this is another fork in the road of Debi's life and we all hope something, anything, God will show her the way.

*****

I haven't gotten an update today, but this is sort of where we stand.

*The "medically induced coma" is a little alarmist for my tastes. She has been intubated (long breathing tube all the way down into her lungs), and the standard procedure that goes along with this is heavy sedation. The tube is so uncomfortable, you can't talk, you feel like you aren't pulling any air in, it forces your mouth open etc, that people instincually attempt to rip it out. So rather than watch every move their hands make, and make them conciously aware of this horrible tube down their throat, they are sedated. They simply sleep through it.

Debi however, the fighter that she is, doesn't want to play that way. She's dealing with the awkwardness of the tube, so that she can retain a small piece of normalcy, I assume. She may not be able to speak to us, but she sure can communicate. So she's writing us notes. Making her wishes known. Some of which are "I want to sleep now. I want to be out" so out she goes. But when she is awake, she is always reminding us of how powerful our Lord is, and that He can do anything.

So yes, she is sedated. But she isn't in a coma... But she still needs our prayers. Pin It

Weekly Update- 22 Weeks

How far along? 22 weeks

Total Weight Gain: + 11 (+2.0 this week). I am starting to feel even bigger. I am getting more uncomfortable every day.

Maternity Clothes? No change.

Stretch Marks? Still nothing! And I hate the smell of cocoa butter, by the way. But my skin feels better, so I guess its working?

Sleep? I'm still pretty tired most of the time. I've started getting acid reflux (yuck!) at night now, and I am back to at least one mid-night pee.

Best Moment This Week: Nothing specific. One week closer to Viability!

Movement: Oh yeah! I feel him all the time now. He's active all the time. I think I am starting to feel it from outside, but everytime I try to get Scott to feel, the little stinker stops!

Food Cravings: Still Chocolate. Still Weird.

Gender: BOY!!

Labor Signs: Nothing.

Belly Button In or Out? Still in. On a semi-related note, I think I am starting to (faintly) develop a linea negra. (the dark line from bra to pants that pg ladies get)

What I miss: Energy. Raw sushi. Sleeping through the night.

What am I looking forward to: Viability. Baby Showers.

Weekly Wisdom: While pregnant, go to the pool as often as possible. It was incredible. Took all the weight off my joints immediately.

Milestones: We picked a name. BUT we're not telling! We'll introduce him by name when he is born. :)

I have bare belly shots as well this week. You've been warned! Please excuse the stupid faces...

22 weeks!

Watch what you say -- baby is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb. Studies show that baby finds gentle music and your own voice most soothing. Nipples are starting to sprout, and that little face is fully formed. And, baby's starting to settle into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop. Pin It
